After months of leaked specs and images as well as some certifications, Samsung finally unveiled their new Galaxy Tab S2 tablets without any fuss. Following the tradition of this series of tablets, they come in two sizes, one with an 8-inch screen and the other with a 9.7-inch screen. Also, just like the previous generation, they have become the thinnest tablets available at just 5.6 mm and they are very light as well, the small one weighs 265 grams and the larger one weighs 389 grams. Both displays use Super AMOLED technology, producing vivid colors and excellent contrast levels thanks to their Adaptive Display, also they sport a 2048 x 1536 resolution, making them some of the most dense displays for tablets. The integrated processor is octa-core, with four cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and the other four clocked at 1.3 GHz, which with the 3 GB of RAM available, shall make a smooth experience while navigating through the software. There are two options of internal storage, 32 GB and 64 GB, which can be further expanded with Micro SD cards of up to 128 GB.
There have already been some hands-on photos of the tablets, which showed that while the frame is made out of metal, the back isn’t, but a solid build quality was mentioned. Now, there’s a video showing some highlights of the tablets, starting with a close-up of the chamfered edges of the metallic frame which indeed looks pretty nice. Then, the user takes out both tablets of the first generation to compare them with the new ones, particularly the newly achieved thinness of the new tablets with a difference one full millimeter between the two. Another aspect that gets compared is the new 4:3 aspect ratio, showing that it is optimized for reading, thus changing the orientation from landscape to a vertical one, still, videos and pictures will look smaller as black bars on the top and bottom will appear. The fingerprint sensor has also been improved, now being touch based and the latest version of TouchWiz is running on top of Android 5.0.2. Finally, the pre-installed Microsoft apps are shown and the 100 GB of free OneDrive storage is mentioned.
