Flip phones have been really popular in the past, many cellphone OEMs have been releasing such devices and for years they were popular all over the world. That’s not the case anymore though, ever since smartphones took over (touchscreens came to life), flip phones are nowhere to be found. Well, that’s not entirely accurate, flip phone smartphones are actually still very popular in parts of Asia at the very least. You’d be surprised how many consumers are still using flip phones. Speaking of which, LG has recently announced their new flip phone, the LG Gentle. We’ve already covered the launch of the LG Gentle, and are here to talk about yet another flip phone which was just announced, read on.
Samsung has decided to announce yet another flip phone as well, the Galaxy Folder. This smartphone was announced in South Korea, and is a direct successor to the Galaxy Folder which was announced in 2013. As you can see, Samsung has decided to stick with the same name, but announce the device 2 years after the original. Anyhow, the Galaxy Folder (2015) features a ton of physical buttons, and above that is the screen portion of the device. The Galaxy Folder sports a 3.8-inch display, but we don’t know its resolution at this moment. The device is powered by Android, and it seems like we’re looking at Android Lollipop here. The 8-megapixel camera is available on the back of the Galaxy folder, and a 2-megapixel shooter is located up front. The device also ships with a 1,800mAh battery, and 8GB of expandable internal storage. 4G TLE connectivity is also a part of this package, and the device comes in White and Dark Blue color options.
Samsung didn’t exactly share a full spec sheet of this smartphone, so we still don’t know some details, like the screen resolution or the processor which is powering this device. Either way, the Galaxy Folder (unlocked variant) will be available for purchase starting next month in South Korea, and it will cost an equivalent to $250. Samsung did not say if the Galaxy Folder will be available for purchase outside of South Korea, but that’s highly unlikely.
