Latest reports coming out of Singapore seem to indicate that two heavily rumored Samsung smartphones may indeed be pretty close to becoming reality. PhoneArena is reporting that Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority has just certified three devices, which include the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus along with the recently announced Galaxy A8. Early on Thursday morning, reports indicated that four variants of two devices bearing model numbers SM-N920A , SM-G928A, SM-N920V and SM-G928V were spotted at the FCC. While the first two are believed to be the AT&T versions of the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy Edge 6 Plus respectively, the later two are the Verizon versions of the same. If there was ever any doubt about the existence of either of the devices, today’s developments should just about clear it all up once and for all. Not only that, all this hectic activity also points towards the impending launch of the two devices sooner rather than later.
Coming to whatever little we know about the hardware specifications of the two upcoming premium devices, the Note 5 is expected to come with a metallic body, and feature a 5.7-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display. The smartphone is said to be packing 4 GB of RAM, which will make it the first Samsung device to come with the feature. The S6 Edge Plus meanwhile, is expected to be the phablet version of the Galaxy S6 Edge. Rumors have it that Samsung will announce both the devices as early as August, instead of waiting till the IFA, which is where the company has been announcing its Note devices every year. Speculators believe that the company will do so in order to avoid a direct clash with Apple, who’s said to be launching its next generation iPhones in the month of October as well.
While not a whole lot more is known about the hardware specifications of the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the Galaxy A8 has already been unveiled by the South Korean smartphone maker, which has given us a detailed understanding of the hardware the smartphone will ship with. The device will feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, which comes with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The handset will ship with 2 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB of internal storage depending on the variant. Users will also be able to expand the storage by up to 128 GB, thanks to the presence of a microSD card slot. The Galaxy A8 smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipset, which comes with an integrated octa-core CPU, with the 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. The SoC also comes with an integrated Adreno 405 GPU to take care of all the graphical needs. The smartphone will carry a 3,050 mAh battery, and will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz interface laid on top.
