Sony Mobile Will Never Exit Business According To CEO

Sony Mobile has no doubt had a little bit of a rocky road this past year or more. Having had trouble keeping up with the other top-tier OEMs with high-end flagship devices. In terms of sales, Sony’s devices just can’t keep up. This had led to numerous rumors about Sony perhaps eventually selling off its mobile division in light of shedding the dead weight of products which weren’t earning Sony enough money to warrant keeping them around. This of course wasn’t the only reason which caused people to think Sony could be leaving the smartphone and mobile business, but speculation was certainly fueled by declining sales and profits compared to their competitors.

On more than one occasion however, Sony had stated recently in the last 6 months that they had no intentions of letting go of their mobile devices, and very recently Sony Mobile CEO Hiroki Totoki had spoken out about various topics on how things are going with the company, mentioning that Sony is never going to sell or exit the current mobile business. This is good news for Sony fans and likely for Sony themselves, but in regards to those who enjoy Sony products, renewed confidence from the company’s CEO and President suggests that they have just as much passion if not more for delivering exciting products to the market, and perhaps this suggests that Sony has some cool stuff coming down the pipe.

So far this year has been about a “big transformation” from Sony with next year’s hope seeing Sony displaying improved performance in the smartphone market. 2016 is all but around the corner so it will still be much too early to tell if the company will see some big increases. Totoki states that competition in the smartphone market has become severe with emerging players and some Chinese manufacturers trying to offer high-quality smartphones, and Sony’s plan of attack is to make attempts at introducing new technologies and a more diversified set of offerings in the future. He also points out though that Sony will always begin with “the quality and strength of the product” when it comes to delivering a new device. This is something Sony Mobile believes very firmly, so it’s nice to see that Sony has an eye for still trying to be competitive without sacrificing the quality their products are known for.
