As you all know by now, Sony’s Mobile sector hasn’t been doing that well as far as finances go for quite some time now. Sony Mobile is struggling to turn a profit, unlike some other parts of this Japanese tech giant, like gaming and camera sensor departments, which are doing great. Sony has announced a couple of smartphones this year, including their flagships, the Xperia Z4 / Z3+. Well, Sony is rumored to be working on a couple of new high-end devices, and a Sony-branded device with no side bezels has leaked recently as well. That’s not all though, read on.
Earlier today, a rumor surfaced that Sony is working on n Xperia M5 device which will launch on August 3rd. Well, we really didn’t have to wait long for Sony to confirm it, the company has posted a new teaser image on their ‘Sony Xperia’ official Twitter account. Along with that image, Sony has also sent out the following caption: ”Focus closely now, a new way to capture split-second photos is coming. 03.08.15 #Xperia”. So, we’re pretty sure that Sony is teasing a smartphone which will be equipped with their 21-megapixel IMX230 Exmor RS sensor. Sony is obviously promising us that this device will be able to shoot images incredibly fast, and as you can see, the event is scheduled for August 3rd, which is only a few days away.
That being said, we don’t have much info as far as specs go, but the aforementioned leak which popped up earlier today seemingly reveals the phone’s display and camera details. The 21-megapixel camera was mentioned in the leak, ans so was the 5-inch display, and a 13-megapixel front-facing shooter. By the looks of it, this will be a camera-focused smartphone, and that doesn’t necessarily means we’re looking at a high-end device here, especially if the display info is legit. It is quite possible that this will be a mid-range offering which will sport great camera capabilities. Keep in mind that we’re only guessing here though, this may turn out to be a high-end device after all. Either way, we’ll find out everything in just a couple of days, stay tuned.
