TELUS Gives 5000 SCENE Points On New 2-Year Choice Plan

Just on the eve of TELUS’ prices going up on their unlock fee, from $35 to $50, they are also announcing another promotional outing for their SCENE points.  TELUS and Cineplex are collaborating to offer 5,000 SCENE points…worth five free movies…for those current or new subscribers who sign up for a two-year contract with TELUS.  As with all ‘free’ offers, there are a few stipulations – you must be a TELUS customer, become a SCENE member, and either activate or renew a smartphone on a two-year Your Choice plan by August 2, 2015.  You must sign-in by August 16, 2015 to claim your points via your TELUS My Account login information, 24-48 hours after your activation or renewal.  This is great when you sign up for the initial deal, but what happens after you see your five free movies – are you stuck in a new program?  What is so nice about the SCENE program is that once you sign up as a member, you can continue to accrue points for future movies, so we took a little look into exactly what the SCENE program is all about.

SCENE is the first and only entertainment rewards program in Canada and is partnered with Scotiabank and Cineplex Entertainment.  The program allows those movie going and bank transactions…and sometimes TELUS subscriptions…into points for free movie tickets and more.  There are three ways to earn points once you use up your 5,000 SCENE points from TELUS.  For starters, every time you see a movie, you earn 100 points towards your next 1,000 points for a free movie, but you also get 10-percent off movie snacks and on Tuesday movie tickets.  You can earn points even faster if you open up a SCENE debit card through Scotiabank – get up to five free movies for opening up a new account, earn one point for every $5 you spend using your debit card and earn 5-times the points with purchases made with your SCENE debit card at any Cineplex theater.  If you apply for a SCENE VISA card, you will get one point for each dollar you spend anywhere and you will earn 4,000 points, or four movies, just for applying for the card.

This is not the first time TELUS has teamed up with a bank to provide promotional bonus points of some sort.  A little over a year ago, TELUS and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) paired up and offered a mobile payment service and application for devices with Near Field Communications (NFC).  More recently, TELUS and CIBC teamed up to offer a TELUS Rewards VISA credit card and every time you used the card you could accumulate TELUS Rewards Points to use on TELUS products and services.  The periodic SCENE offer is another way TELUS can market their services through Scotiabank.
