UMi is a rather interesting Chinese smartphone OEM. This company managed to intrigue people when they released the UMi Zero handset last year. That was a very nice build, solid handset, and the company was looking for ways to do the same this year as well. UMi has announced the UMi Iron handset which sports really compelling specs. This thing is made out of metal, it features a 5.5-inch 1080p LTPS display along with 3GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera on the back. Android 5.1 comes pre-installed on the UMi Iron, and the phone is currently available for pre-order from a range of Chinese resellers, and it will be available for purchase soon.
That being said, UMi Iron also has another interesting sensor on it, the eye scanner one. The UMi Iron is equipped with ‘hypertech’ – Eyeprint ID sensor, what exactly is it? Well, this biometric sensor can recognize a unique vein pattern of the eye in order to recognize its owner (after being programmed to do so, of course). UMi says that this sensor will work during the night as well. How? Well, the company says that the ambient sensor will help out by adjusting the screen brightness to the optimal level necessary for the scanner to recognize your eye print. The company also wants to make sure that the eye scanner will work even if you wear contact lenses, even if you wear colored lenses.
This is not the only piece of UMi news we have to share with you today though. I don’t know if you recall, but we’ve talked about UMi’s wireless headphones a while back, the UMi Voix Blu. We have shared some images of the headphones which showed us how flexible they are… well, those headphones are now available for purchase from a number of Chinese resellers for $49.99. That being said, if you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll notice a couple of images showing you how will the eye scanner smartphone setup look like. And also, you’ll find some promo images of UMi Voix Blu in there, as well as some images of these headphones.
