Ah… Blackberry. This company was one of the biggest smartphone OEMs once, and today they’re trying to keep their heads above the water. Blackberry didn’t really move in the right direction for quite some time and the company gave other OEMs and OS’ a chance to innovate. Android and iOS became huge operating systems, and BlackBerry was kind of late to the party when they released BB10. That being said, there have been a lot of rumors that BlackBerry is going to be acquired by other companies, well, that hasn’t happened yet. What’s interesting though, recently, we’ve seen quite a few rumors regarding an Android-powered BlackBerry-branded device.
Soon after initial rumors started, an Android-powered BlackBerry prototype called ‘Venice‘ surfaced online. People were quite skeptical when they saw it, saying it’s a fake and what not, but the device might actually exist. BlackBerry Venice and Dallas were just imported into India for testing. According to an import / export site, Zauba, both of the aforementioned BlakcBerry models have been imported into India. The listing doesn’t exactly share any specs info, nor does it mention the devices’ codenames directly, but their model numbers are present and accounted for. The BlackBerry Venice’s value is also mentioned, according to the listing, the phone is worth Rs. 63.262. This is definitely not the final price of the device, but it does indicate that this will be a high-end offering by this Canada-based company.
The BlackBerry Venice is said to sport a 5.4-inch 1440p display and a slide out keyboard. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core SoC will reportedly fuel this handset, and you can also expect it to pack in 3GB of RAM. 4G LTE connectivity is a given, and an 18-megapixel rear-facing camera has also been mentioned. The 5-megapixel camera could be available on the front side of BlackBerry Venice, and that’s pretty much it. Take all this info with a pinch of salt because these are leaked specs, and nothing is confirmed yet. The BlackBerry Venice seems a bit closer to launch at this moment though. Anyhow, stay tuned for more info, we’ll report back soon.
