News of the latest version of Lollipop is all some users are looking for these days, eager and waiting to get their hands on Lollipop 5.1 for a few extra tweaks and improvements to the software. Many manufacturers have already updated a number of their devices to Lollipop since it was officially released last Fall alongside the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9, and Sony was among those which updated a handful of their different smartphones and tablets to Android 5.0.2 earlier this year. This included the Xperia Z3 and other variants of the device like the Xperia Z3 Compact, as well as Sony’s smaller tablet from last year the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Earlier this afternoon some users in certain international regions began seeing updates to Android 5.1.1 on their devices which isn’t too surprising considering Sony mentioned updates for the most recent Lollipop build would be coming in July. Now that updates are starting to roll out to some Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact users, those with other devices like the Xperia Z3 and older devices like the Xperia Z2 are still waiting on their versions of the software update. One thing which users have been unsure of is whether or not the latest version of Lollipop would bring along the support for manual camera settings when shooting pictures. According to the latest details, that answer is no.
This is quite interesting considering Sony has added support for manual camera settings with their latest handset, the Xperia Z3+ which is already on Android 5.1.1. There’s no telling if the Sony will leave this function support out of other devices which have yet to receive the latest firmware, but it’s entirely possible it won’t be any different. Whatever Sony’s reasons for leaving this functionality out of older devices, it won’t change the fact that it isn’t there. It may leave users with less control over different elements of their photos, but Sony’s camera sensors in mobile phones have always been able to produce some top quality shots compared to other devices so the lack of manual camera settings doesn’t mean you can’t take decent shots.
