Samsung may be the largest manufacturer of Android based devices, but they also have their hands in some products running Windows, and a new rumor suggests that Samsung may be looking to produce a new tablet that is said to be powered by Windows 10, Microsoft’s recently released OS platform that is meant to merge PC, mobile, and console. While arguably no Windows based tablets other than the Windows Surface have likely garnered much attention in the recent past, Samsung aims to take another crack at the Microsoft-made operating system now that the latest version has finally released out to users. It’s also said that Samsung is already working on this device.
According to the rumor the tablet will be sporting a 12-inch display which seems to suggest Samsung will be aiming this at the business and professional markets while boasting productivity. The display is said to be a Super AMOLED panel which makes perfect sense given it is Samsung’s own display technology. Alongside those details, it could possibly have a one of two different options for display resolution which include either 2560 x 1600 or 3840 x 2400, meaning Samsung would be boosting their offerings in the display space compared to currently available devices from the manufacturer. It’s also said to potentially come with 4GB of RAM and could include Samsung’s signature S Pen which most users will recognize from Samsung’s lineup of Note series devices.
Keeping to the trend of delivering devices with a svelte profile, the tablet is also rumored to be 6.2mm thin while weighing just 600 grams. Compared to Samsung’s other most recent tablet with a 12.2-inch display, the Android-powered Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, that’s considerably lighter and thinner if the dimensions are true as the Galaxy Note Pro weighs in at 753 grams and is 8mm thin. With Samsung seeing increased competition in the Android smartphone space from rising stars like Xiaomi and Micromax in emerging markets, it sort of makes sense for them to enter the Windows tablet market where there is considerably less competition, or so it would seem. Not to mention Windows 10 hasn’t been out long as a consumer release so if Samsung is already working on the device they could be getting into the space earlier than other OEMs. This is also assuming that they are actually working on a tablet powered by there Windows 10 OS, which there is no concrete evidence of just yet.
