Hong Kong-based smartphone vendor Blackview has announced a new affordable smartphone in its lineup, named the Omega Pro. The device comes with a metallic frame and is said to look like the iPhone 4 / 4s, but runs on Android and will cost as little as $99, at least in Philippines, if reports are to be believed. Blackview is a company known for making highly affordable Android smartphones, including the Alife A1 Pro, which comes with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the device’s front-facing physical home button. Recently, the company also released a Go Pro style Hero 1 Action camera which currently costs only around $129. The camera competes in the market with the likes of Yi Action camera from Xiaomi.
Coming to the hardware specs of the newly launched Blackview Omega Pro smartphone, the device features a 5-inch IPS display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, making it scratch resistant. The display panel comes with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, resulting in a 294 dpi pixel density. The handset is powered by the MediaTek MT6753 SoC, which comes with an embedded octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 1.5 GHz. The USP for the Blackview Omega Pro seems to the presence of 3 GB of RAM in a device costing as little as $99. The device also comes with 16 GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded by up to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card. The smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera.
Coming to the connectivity options on the device, it comes with support for 4G LTE and 3G HSPA, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port. The Omega Pro will also feature GPS and A-GPS. It will come with a 2,400 mAh battery and will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. The device is said to measure 143.5 x 71.4 x 7.8 mm and will be available in two different color options – Black and White. While the phone represents great value on paper, only time will tell how much traction it can generate in a world getting increasingly filled with high-value low-priced gadgets like the Omega Pro.
