Google Critic Reviews Cards Expanding To TV Shows & Books

Google is primarily a search service. While many might not feel this is the case if they run Android on their devices, the Search function for Google has always been its biggest financial contributor and therefore, its main service. As such, the Search feature is one which continually sees a number of clever add-ons and improvements coming though. One of the biggest changes in recent times that Search has seen was the introduction of Google Now and its respective Cards. These offer users an even quicker way to find the information they want when they want. As such, since Google Now came about, it has also seen quite the level of micro-evolution as well.

One of the recent features which was added to Now (and Search in general) is the ability for Google to show critics reviews when searching for movies. These mostly appear at the top of the card page and offer the user a quick glimpse of the type of reviews a movie has received. Needless to say, a great addition for those thinking about watching a movie and wanting to know if it is good or bad. That said, the review info is only currently available for movies.

Well, Google announced today on their Developers blog that this is set to change over the coming year. The blog details the success of how they have implemented the review information into Cards and notes that it will also be available for TV shows and books before the year is out. As such, once the changes take effect, when you are searching for books and TV shows, you will be able to expect the same sort of quick evaluation as we currently get with movies. Not to mention, as Google points out, this will also be highly beneficial for publishers as it may be a decided factor on whether you buy a book or not. One of those win-win situations that do not often come up that often. Google was not specific on when the actual feature expansion will go live, but did note it will be before the end of this year.
