Google has made yet another move to showcase their commitment to the education system recently with a new partnership that they have entered with Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack, in an initiative to place a backpack into the hands of 10,000 children across America. Now only will 10,000 children get a free backpack but the packs will reportedly be full of needed school supplies to help kids be the utmost prepared for their first day of school with everything they could possibly need. With a new school year approaching in just the next few weeks, parents will be taking their kids to the store to stock up on those supplies.
Not everyone is fortunate to always get the things they need as some families can’t always afford the necessities, which is why Google wanted to do its part to help the situation and donate a backpack full of useful school supplies to Volunteers of America whenever you spend $50 or more with Google Shopping Express. Once Volunteers of America has these backpacks, they can disperse them out the kids that need these backpacks and supplies the most. Google makes a good point that kids can feel a lack of confidence or feel “anxious and different” when they show up to school without backpacks or the correct supplies. In turn this could easily affect the way they perform in school.
The coolest part about Google’s partnership however is the dedicated webpage they have set up. If you didn’t think it was easy for you to get hit with “the feels,” think again. Scrolling past Google’s initial explanation and video talking about the operation, you can see a message that says every backpack has a story after which you can click on the individual cards highlighting each kid where a video has them talking about their backpack and what’s inside. It almost details a simpler time when we could be so easily excited about the little things like backpacks and having the stuff we need to be prepared for school. Ther whole process is rather quite simple and all people have to do is spend $50 or more on things they would probably be shopping for online anyway, and in the end Google, along with Volunteers of America and the people who do their online shopping through this program can help to “make a child’s day.”
