Meizu's VP: MX5 Pro Won't Launch, New Device In The Works

Meizu is one of the fastest growing Chinese smartphone OEM. As far as sheer size and sales numbers go, they still can’t compete with the likes of Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, and some other China-based companies, but their growth is incredible. Meizu keeps on pushing forward, and at this rate, they will reach top 5 China OEMs list soon. That being said, Meizu has announced a number of really solid smartphones this year, including Meizu M1, M2, M2 Note and the MX5. The latter one on that list is Meizu’s 2015 flagship, and it seems like that might remain the only premium offering by Meizu this year, read on.

As some of you might know, Meizu has released two premium offerings last year, the MX4 and MX4 Pro. The MX4 sported a capacitive button below the display, while the MX4 shipped with a physical home button. All of the devices Meizu has announced in the last 6 months actually ship with a physical home button, and the Meizu MX5 looks like a blend of MX4 and MX4 Pro. That being said, we’ve heard some rumors that MX5 Pro might not even launch because Meizu said that they’re working on a brand new line of devices, and that the MX Pro line will be discontinued eventually. Well, it seems like the company’s VP has just confirmed that fact.

Meizu’s VP, Li Nan, has released a rather interesting post on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. The company’s VP has basically confirmed that the MX5 Pro won’t launch, and that they’re working on a new premium line of devices, which will be significantly different than their current offerings. Mr. Nan has also said that the price of this device will exceed 3,000 Yuan, so it is safe to assume that we’re looking at a phone made out of metal which will sport premium specs all around. According to previous reports, this device won’t be ready for launch this year, so it seems like the MX5 is the last high-end offering from Meizu this year. Either way, you can expect a ton of leaks to follow this announcement, so get ready and stay tuned, we’ll report back soon.
