Wearables are still technically a fairly new space. That doesn’t mean that there is a shortage of different devices out there for consumers. On the contrary, there are quite a few different brands out there offering everything from fitness and activity trackers to smartwatches. This includes bigger brands like Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony and others, and smaller brands like Misfit. For those who may be unfamiliar with Misfit, they offer a range of different trackers like the Misfit Flash, Misfit Flash Link and the Misfit Shine, both activity trackers which offer users a selection of different capabilities from tracking your sleep to how many steps you took. Today Misfit is announcing their latest venture in a new partnership with swim brand company Speedo to launch a new tracker called the Speedo Shine.
This looks a lot like the original Misfit Shine tracker that is already available but is focusing more on Swimmers with the Speedo brand, and will feature new functions aimed at helping track various swim stats. When it launches the Speedo Shine will be available either from Misfit’s own website or from Speedo’s website. For retail it will be available exclusively at Apple stores with the launch for all three set for September 1st which is just a couple of weeks away. When wearing the Speedo Shine swimmers can expect to utilize the unique technology inside the device to track things like lap counts, and Misfit states that it will be capable of working for any swimmer as it supports all types of swim strokes.
Although the device will only be available in Apple stores at the physical retail level at launch, the tracker will still be compatible with the Misfit Android app so users with Android devices won’t be locked out of using it. Along with this new tracker, users who sync up to the Misfit app will be able to see swim distance in addition to the standard details the app already displayed which includes how many calories were burned and how many points they earned for their activities. Those worried about taking this thing in the pool can rest easy as Misfit mentions it carries the same waterproof capability as the original Shine tracker which allows the wearer to take it up to a 50 meter depth without issues. It’s also not just for swimming as it can track all kinds of other activities too, like walking, running, cycling, sleeping and more. When it launches at the beginning of next month, Speedo Shine will be available for purchase for $79.99, which puts it right in line with some other trackers when it comes to cost.
