New Telus Ads Reveal the 'Secret Life of Phones'

In their latest advertisements to urge people to use their help services, Telus looks like it stole a page from Samsung’s ad portfolio complete with humor.  The ad campaign is entitled the “Secret Life of Phones,” and gives us a glimpse into what your phone is thinking, as if it has a mind and opinions of their own.  The first ad discusses dealing with a new Baby in the house and how those ‘precious’ memories could be lost forever.  The second theme is a phone and a Bluetooth speaker having a discussion about pairing the two together.  It is a great campaign and Telus is hoping that it will remind subscribers that they come to Telus’ online to find solutions to their smartphone issues, as well as ideas on how best to protect your data and tips on operating your device.

I never really thought about what my smartphone is thinking when I am not around…does it moan about all of the photos I take of food that I eat?  Well, in the first ad there is a new baby in the house and the phone is exasperated at taking all of the new baby photos – “If I have to take one more picture of that discussing baby, I swear I will drop myself in the toilet.”  It longs for just one night out where it can take a picture with its front-facing camera…one night to autocorrect swear words…and just one night the dirty puddle it gets dropped into doesn’t come out of a freaking diaper.  The phone then goes on to explain to its ‘buddy’ that it could handle that entire existence if the owner would just take the time to back up its pictures.  His friend is appalled and then Telus gives you an online web address for their learning center.

The second ad involves a Bluetooth speaker speaking to a smartphone, trying to get its attention with a poor connection.  The phone thinks someone, maybe a spirit, is trying to contact it.  The speaker shouts, “I am trying to pair with you” but the phone thinks it is “trying to fly a bear with you.”  The speaker yells for the phone to turn on its Bluetooth and finally in desperation calls it “son of a…” and drops off before anything bad is said.  Take a couple of minutes to watch the videos below – they will certainly put a smile on your face and maybe make you look at your phone just a little bit differently.
