Last week saw a launch event take place which was arguably one of the most interesting launch events of the year. This was of course, the launch event for the OnePlus 2. For a lot of people, interest around this device is sky high due to the level of specs on offer coupled with the very affordable (comparatively speaking) price. As such, whether OnePlus could repeat the success of the OnePlus One was something that was always going to generate attention.
Well, in the wake of the announcement, it did seem that many people were split when it came to their thoughts on the OnePlus 2. This is in spite of the reservation sign-up exceeding one million registrations in only three days. While, the device did come with a ton of great and “future proof” specs, what divided opinion was the lack of some more mundane features. Most notably, NFC and any form of advanced charging. Well, to answer some of those questions (as well as a few others), OnePlus held an ask me anything on reddit this morning.
Of course, the AMA was not designed to answer these questions specifically, however, with the attention the absent features have caused of late, it was not surprising that they made a repeat appearance throughout the conversation. In short and in answering the criticism, the OnePlus team echoed sentiments made by them before, that they were features which are simply not needed. In fact, when one Redditor specifically criticized OnePlus for falling by their own mantra “Never Settle” in settling for not including these products, the OnePlus team member responding by saying that if you are not happy with the product, then you should not settle for it either “We’ve always said that never settle is true for us too. That means, if you’re not happy with the product you shouldn’t settle for ours either“. In terms of the quick charging claim, OnePlus again defended their actions by stating that the device does charge in full in about two hours, which is longer than it takes on the OnePlus One. Last up, OnePlus did again confirm the third phone, although did also point out it is not the OnePlus 3 or the OnePlus 2S.
