Oppo Teases Event For New Phone With Barcelona FC On Sep 8th

The Chinese manufacturer has been getting a lot of attention recently with the launch of a number of very interesting Android smartphones, including the thinnest phone in the world, the Oppo R5/R5s at only 4.85mm thick. The company has partnered with Spanish soccer giant Barcelona FC since last June and it seems that their partnership might be bringing some fruits already. Last Monday Oppo took to Weibo and teased an event to be held on September 8th featuring major players from the team, including Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luiz Suarez, Adriano, Jordi Alba, Marc Bartra and Pique, together with a text saying “It’s my turn”. It’s believed that the company will announce a special version of their latest handset, the Oppo R7 Plus Barcelona Limited Edition.

The Oppo R7 Plus is a pretty awesome mid-range device that comes with solid specs. It features a giant 6 inches display with Full HD resolution. Released last May, it’s powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU from Qualcomm with four cores running at 1.5 GHz and the remaining four clocked at 1.0 GHz, together with an Adreno 405 GPU. The phablet comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage that can be further expanded up to 128GB with a MicroSD. Complementing the set is a huge 4100 mAh battery, a 13MPrear camera with laser auto-focus and dual-LED flash, an 8MP front camera and a fingerprint reader on the back right below the main camera. The handset features a metal unibody frame with curved edges.

The Barcelona Limited Edition is believed to hold the same internal specs as its original version but will have customizations on the outside. The body is likely to be engraved with the soccer team’s logo, together with a special theme, wallpapers and other merchandising. From the slogan, it seems that the launch of this product is an answer from Oppo to the competitor’s Meizu MX5 GuangZhou Evergrande, made in partnership with the GuangZhou Evergrande Taobao FC, a famous soccer team in China. Oppo’s push, however, goes far beyond its home country since Barcelona has a very strong presence in several countries, especially in Europe. As for pricing and availability, there aren’t any information. However, the R7 Plus costs 480 USD and the price is likely to be on par with the current one. The event will be held on the September 8th in China, so stay tuned for more news.
