Samsung Experience Stores Safe From Carphone Warehouse Hack

Just a couple of days ago back on August 8th, in what is another one of the latest data breaches of a major company, Carphone Warehouse was hit by hackers leaving plenty of customers vulnerable, which led to a total of about 2.4 million customers having their personal data compromised. The good news is that the breach only affected a small number of customers. While this may be alarming to anyone who may have shopped there in recent past, there is a little bit of a silver lining for some customers as Samsung has just announced that their experience stores in the UK are not affected by the Carphone Warehouse hack.

Samsung’s experience stores are operated by Carphone Warehouse staff, so understandably some customers may have immediately been worried about their own personal data. A Samsung spokesperson said however that customers of their stores aren’t to worry as their data is safe, stating that “we are aware of the situation and can confirm that this will not impact Samsung Experience Stores.” In regards to the data breach over the weekend, this potentially left hackers with a range of customer data including addresses, credit card information, phone numbers and more, so customers who shopped there should be on the lookout for contact from Carphone Warehouse who says they’re trying to notify anyone who may have been affected.

In light of the information from Samsung, this is good news for anyone who opted to purchase Samsung products through the Experience Store as opposed to Carphone Warehouse itself. Those who were affected though would do well to watch their accounts and contact any banks or other institutions where they may need to update their financial information. This bodes well for Samsung as they’re nearing the Unpacked event which is to take place this Thursday where it’s expected the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be announced. News of a data breach at the experience stores wouldn’t have necessarily made a huge impact on future sales, but it likely wouldn’t be helping them immensely to have that sort of a situation looming as they’re trying to sell newly released products.
