Samsung finally unveiled two new phones yesterday, the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+. They hardly came as a surprise as both phones were leaked in pictures and their their rumored before the event They both feature very large 5.7-displays, a Samsung Exynos 7420 processor with 4GB of RAM and the same camera configuration. Although, the Note 5 includes the typical S Pen (featuring a new mechanism to take it out of the phone) and the S6 Edge+ features an enhanced interface to take advantage of its curved screen.
Regarding the software, one nice surprise was the ability to take notes on the Note 5 even when the phone is locked and you can also take a screenshot that includes many pages instead of one for each page. As usual, companies include some apps bundled in their phones, but for these two phones it seems Samsung are including many paid apps for free. So if you end up using all of the included apps, you could save up to $300.
There are some apps to keep you informed such as subscriptions for 6 months of The Economist, The Guardian and the NY Times, those typically cost the most, with prices from $24 to $90. For those users interested in health, there’s the Lifesum app which keeps track of your eating and exercise habits, usually costing $18. Komoot offers turn-by-turn navigation of topographic maps, which can be used while hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities, users can save $26.99 with this app. The Tripadvisor app on Samsung phones offers coupons to save 15% and exclusive features for the owner of the phone. For the readers, Kindle was optimized for Samsung devices and offers one free book per month through Samsung Book Deals and the Scribd app is included as well, saving $27. The included games are Driver Speedboat Paradise, Empire: Four Kingdoms and Hearthstone Heroes Of Warcraft saving around $17 for the three of them. With Microsoft’s OneDrive users of these phones can get 100 GB of storage for 2 years, a $48 value.
Finally, the Note 5 includes 2 more apps to take advantage of the S-Pen, Sketchbook was optimized for this phone and provides all the features of the Pro version, which usually costs $4.99.
