After weeks of speculations and rumors, Samsung officially unveiled its Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ phablets in NYC on Thursday morning. While the company revealed only the 32 and 64 GB models at its presentations during the live event, the US domain of Samsung Electronics seems to suggest presence of a 128 GB version, something that was briefly touched upon by Android Headlines on Thursday itself. The variant has been listed on Samsung’s website as an option for all major US carriers, which means it could potentially be available for purchase at some stage in the near future. It is worth remembering that neither the Galaxy Note 5 nor the Galaxy S6 Edge+ comes with microSD card slots, although, a report out of China does indicate that the dual-SIM variant of the Note 5 might actually include a hybrid slot for the second SIM card, which would double up as a microSD slot.
The just-announced Galaxy Note 5 is the fifth generation flagship phablet from the South Korean electronics giant. While the lineup was once ridiculed for being akin to a ‘piece of toast’ because of its large size, the Note series phablets have since become one of Samsung’s best-selling smartphone ranges and in recent times, has managed to transcend its niche and has crossed over into the smartphone mainstream, with the increase in multimedia consumption on hand-held devices. However, in a surprise move from the South Korean firm, reports indicate that the Galaxy Note 5 will not be made available in many parts of Europe (at least for now), for reasons best known to the company. While it might seem counterproductive to limit the availability of one of the best-selling products from the company, Samsung must have its own reasons for doing it.
As a quick refresher for interested readers, the Galaxy Note 5 features a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display with a 518 dpi pixel density. The smartphone is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 7420 processor and comes with 4GB of RAM. The device is available currently with 32 GB and 64 GB options, and carries a 3,000 mAh battery. Imaging options include the same 16-megapixel rear camera from the Galaxy S6, which can only be good thing. In the front, the Note 5 has a 5-megapixel camera to shoot selfies with. The Galaxy Note 5 also supports wireless charging, sports a fingerprint scanner and runs on Android 5.1.1 out of the box.
UPDATE: The Verge is reporting that Samsung has officially announced it doesn’t plan to launch the 128 GB Note 5 any time soon. The company has also taken down the listing for its 128 GB Note 5 from its site. Samsung however neither confirmed nor denied its future plans for the 128 GB version.
