Although we prefer facts at AndroidHeadlines, we also love a good rumor…especially when it revolves around the Nexus line of devices – the ‘Holy Grail’ of pure Android devices. We were shocked last year when the Motorola made Nexus 6 was revealed with a huge 6-inch display, top specs and an expensive price tag. This year, perhaps to go back to its roots of affordability, while at the same time showcasing the best device for those that demand a flagship, we are being led to believe that Google will present us with not one, but two new Nexus devices. A mid-range one would be made by LG and follow the lines of the Nexus 5. The other, a high-end Nexus smartphone made by Huawei that would a feature a 5.7-inch 2K AMOLED display – possibly made by Samsung Display, one of the world’s largest producers of OLED displays.
There are reports from MK News that Samsung Display is already shipping the OLED panels for Huawei for testing, and that the number of panels is gradually increasing. The report does not go into details about what device the panels may be used for…certainly no mention of a Nexus smartphone, so they may simply be for a new device that Huawei is working on. Our source believes that the timing is just too perfect for anything but the rumored Nexus smartphone. In order for Google to follow past patterns, Huawei should start manufacturing the new Nexus device very soon and believes that we will soon hear about the new Huawei smartphone with an OLED panel supplied by Samsung Display.
A while back, Huawei confirmed to the International Business Times UK that were working with Google on a Nexus device. Huawei would love for this to happen on a number of levels – they have been trying to make a break into the US market and strengthen their ties with Google…the Nexus smartphone would be the perfect conduit for both. Details on the specifications are sketchy at best, but point to the 5.7-inch 2K OLED display, a full metallic body, a 21MP main camera using Sony’s IMX230 sensor and support for wireless charging. As we hear more information, we will update you as soon as we can.
