Siemens is a Germany-based tech company which has been around since 1847. Many of you have probably heard of this company, event though it’s not that popular as it used to be, at least not in the mobile world. Siemens is still very much in business, and are actually quite busy in various sectors (industry, healthcare, energy…), but they’ve stopped making phones a long time ago. The last phone Siemens has released was the AL21 model back in 2005, if my information is accurate. Siemens was very popular back when cellphones were a thing, their C35i and S55 models were very popular back then.
That being said, it seems like Siemens is planning to return to the mobile world, and actually release a smartphone. According to the latest report, the company is working on a ‘Gigaset’ handset (GS55-6) which will be announced during IFA in Berlin. The source actually claims Siemens has officially announced this fact, which is interesting. This device will be powered by Android, and according to the available AnTuTu data, it will be quite powerful as well. According to AnTuTu, the device will feature a 1080p display (we don’t know the dimensions just yet), 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core SoC will fuel this smartphone along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics. The 16-megapixel camera will be available on the back of this phone, and the 8-megapixel snapper will be located on the device’s front side. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come pre-installed here, and we still don’t know if Siemens intends to include some sort of overlay (skin) on top of Android.
Interestingly enough, the phone has leaked as well. The images aren’t all that great, but you’ll notice that the device sports metallic trim around the device, and that its power / lock button is located on the right-hand side, while the volume rocker buttons can be found on the left. The ‘Gigaset’ branding is also easily visible, and it seems like the phone won’t have any physical keys up front, and capacitive ones aren’t present here either (at least are not visible while the device is off). This is actually very interesting, we’ll let you know if anything else surfaces before the show.
