In the US, T-Mobile might be the network known for making all the noise, and actually improving subscribers in the process, but across the pond in the UK, users like myself have Three. The network that was one of the first to bring 3G to people back in the early 2000s became known for offbeat and catchy adverts like the old Cherry adverts and more recently dancing Ponies and now a Muppet named Jackson. In their latest offbeat ad campaign, Jackson and his friend Steve head into the woods to promote features of the new LG G4.
While this might sound all a little silly, Three have been so serious about the project that they even issued a press release with amazing quotes like “This short film sees us take a phone review to the next level, to not only showcase the great benefits of the LG G4 on Three but also to entertain and catch the attention of the audience.” While this is an unorthodox way of showing off a phone, Three do a good job of skating the line between downright scary and good natured silliness. As ads go, this is one of the better ways for showing off key features of a new smartphone, but we wonder how those above the age 25 or so will react to this bit of fun. Those interested can take a look at the video below, it’s about 5 minutes or so, which should be perfect for your lunch break.
Three have been rebooting their ad campaigns a little bit this year, with the introduction of Jackson and his #makeitright chant. Starring in a fun and energetic ad cheering people up the length and breadth of the UK, Jackson looks like he’s here to stay. Of course, one could argue that Three should focus more on the fact that they are far cheaper than the other major networks in the UK and are the only network to offer unlimited data. On the other hand though, it’s nice to see a wireless network having a little fun for once.
