UMi is a company you might have, or might not have heard of by now. This is a China-based company which has released a very interesting smartphone lately, the UMi Iron. We’ve already reviewed this device, and it turns out UMi did a relatively solid job with it. The phone offers a retina scanner, is made out of metal, sports 3GB of RAM and is powered by MediaTek’s MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor. Android 5.1 Lollipop is also on board, and the device is quite affordable. That being said, the company has been teasing the Hammer S handset for quite some time now, and the device is now finally official.
The UMi Hammer S is a mid-range handset which features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. This device is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6735 quad-core SoC running at 1GHz, and it ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. The 13-megapixel camera is located on the back of the Hammer S, and a 2-megapixel snapper can be found up front. The 3,200mAh battery is also a part of this package, and a Type-C USB 3.0 port is also available here. The UMi Hammer S offer 4G LTE support, and it sports a metallic (aluminum) trim around the device. There are also two SIM card slots available here, in case you need such a functionality. In addition to everything mentioned above, the Hammer S also sports an IR Blaster, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.
If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll notice quite a few official renders of UMi’s newest handset. As you can see, there are three capacitive buttons below the display (menu, home and back), and both power / lock and volume rocker buttons are located on the phone’s right-hand side. This phone actually resembles the UMi Iron as far as general form factor goes, but the Iron ships with no capacitive buttons, and their physical keys are located on the left. The UMi Hammer S is now available for pre-order for $149.99, and you can get it from a range of China-based resellers already. The device will be available for sale around September 15th.
