Unpacked 2015: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Is Official!

Following the many, many rumors, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is finally official. There weren’t a whole lot of surprises here, but we do have essentially a bigger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge from earlier this year. We have that beautiful looking curved display wrapping around the front of the device. Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 Edge+ along side the Galaxy Note 5 today in New York City.

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is sporting a 5.7-inch Quad HD, 2560 x 1440 resolution, Super AMOLED display that wraps around both the left and right sides. We also have the Exynos 7420 processor powering the Galaxy S6 Edge+ alongside 4GB of RAM. Which should do plenty for multi-tasking. There’s also 32GB and 64GB models, without a microSD card slot. Because the design is the same as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, there’s no removable back. Which also takes away the removable battery, unfortunately. This is essentially a larger Galaxy S6 Edge with some more features thrown in to the Edge display compared to the smaller brother.

Samsung is billing this as a device that’s “best for multimedia” which includes the new Ultra High Quality Audio (UHQA) technology which upscaled MP3s to higher-quality audio not unlike what Sony has been doing with DSEE-HX on their Xperia Z line of devices.

Camera wise, it looks like the Galaxy S6 Edge+ has the same sort of imaging as the original Galaxy S6 Edge with a 16-megapixel sensor capable of recording 4K and some excellent low-light shots. There’s a front-facing 5-megapixel camera here as well, just like the original. We’ll be taking a closer look at what Samsung has rolled into this device as well as the new camera features later on today.

With the Galaxy S6 Edge+, it appears this is their Galaxy Note Edge 2, except there’s no S Pen. Which isn’t going to make everyone happy. But it’s still a great looking device from Samsung. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ has the same design as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge from earlier on in the year, but with a larger display. Which seems to be what everyone wants these days, for some reason.

It’s a great looking smartphone from Samsung, and available in a plethora of colors. We’ll be getting some hands on with it shortly, so make sure you stay tuned for more coverage of the Galaxy S6 Edge+. Color wise, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be available in either Black Sapphire or Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium and White Pearl elsewhere.
