Back at Mobile World Congress in March, Lenovo announced quite a few products, including a pair of tablets. One was the Tab 2 A8, which we recently reviewed, and the other is the Tab 2 A10 which appeared on our doorstep this morning. The Tab 2 A10 is their 10-inch variant of the Tab 2 A series tablets. They aren’t high-end tablets, but aren’t necessarily low-end tablets either.
With this tablet, we have a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 resolution IPS display, MediaTek’s MT8165 quad-core 1.7GHz processor inside. Along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. We also have a 8MP camera on the back with a 5MP front-facing shooter for taking selfies and taking video calls on this tablet. Lenovo has teamed with Dolby Atmos for the speakers on this thing as well. Lenovo also threw in a massive 7000mAh battery inside, which should keep your tablet going all day. There is also a 4G LTE model available, with the same specs, aside from the processor, which is a MediaTek MT8732 processor.
We’ve been using the Lenovo Tab 2 A10 for a few hours now, and really like it, actually. It’s under $300 and available now from Lenovo’s website. What has us the most excited about this device is the software. Lenovo told us with Android 5.0 and up, they would be taking on Motorola’s vision of Android. On tablets and devices sold outside of China. Which means vanilla Android for all. The Lenovo Tab 2 A10 does have pretty much stock Android, but like Motorola there are a few changes. One being the icons, they aren’t stock, but a quick third-party launcher installation can fix that. Also the Quick Settings are changed just a bit. The biggest change is the blue-ish color here. The third change is the settings app. It looks like the app that was on their KitKat devices, so hopefully that’ll get updated in the next update to their Tab 2 A10.
Lenovo has made a pretty lightweight tablet here. And one that actually looks pretty good. While it’s still not really a small tablet, as it is a 10.1-incher here, it’s still quite comfortable to hold. We’ll be running this tablet through its paces over the next week or so and seeing just how good or bad the tablet really is. Definitely excited to have near stock Android on this tablet. One of the few tablets to do that actually.
