Xiaomi is constantly releasing smartphones. This China-based company has released quite a few handsets this year, including their Mi Note and Mi Note Pro flagship phablets, the mid-range Mi 4i smartphone… and many more. That being said, recent rumors and leaks indicated that Xiaomi is preparing to release another variant of their Redmi 2 smartphone. As you might recall, the original Redmi 2 smartphone launched back in January, while the even more affordable Redmi 2A followed in March. Well, recent rumors said that another variant of Redmi 2 is on its way, and we didn’t exactly know what to expect, except the same design of course. Well, the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, has announced this smartphone, read on.
As expected, the new Redmi 2 handset will sport the same design as both the Redmi 2 and Redmi 2A. This smartphone will be named Redmi 2A, and it will be almost identical to the Redmi 2A, aside from slightly different specs. Unlike its predecessor, which sported 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, the new Redmi 2A variant will ship with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device will cost 549 Yuan in China, and it is already listed on the company’s website (source link down below). Keep in mind that this handset is only available in China for now, as it usually goes when Xiaomi is concerned, at least at first. That being said, let’s check out the specs of this new Redmi 2A variant, shall we.
The new variant of the Redmi 2A features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Leadcore’s LC1860C quad-core SoC running at 1.5GHz fuels this smartphone, and a 2,200mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 8-megapixel shooter is available on the back of the Redmi 2A, and a 2-megapixel shooter can be found up front. This is a dual-SIM smartphone which offers 4G LTE connectivity, and it ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. You’ll also find Xiaomi’s MIUI 6.0 OS installed on top of Android here, as it’s the case with any other Xiaomi-branded smartphone.
