As if the Watch Urbane weren’t swanky enough for a piece of electronics, LG unveiled the Watch Urbane Luxe not too long ago. In partnership with REEDS Jewellers, the Luxe will be limited to just 500 units, and is named as such due to the 23-karat gold build of the main housing and an Alligator-leather watch strap. Rather than just a throwaway included watch strap, the Alligator-leather strap here is very much part of the overall design of the Luxe, and it looks and feels great.
There might only be 500 of these to go on sale, but there’s one doing the round throughout the halls at IFA here in Berlin, and we got to spend some time with it. It looks great on our wrists, but perhaps it’s a little rich for our blood, either way this thing feels like a timepiece. Rather than a watch that’s a smartwatch, the Watch Urbane Luxe feels like a proper timepiece for the 21st Century. The strap is designed and adorned with a 23-karat clasp to better show off the rich, deep brown of the Alligator-leather and the whole thing is weighty, assuring and worth the asking price. We suppose it’s just a shame that the software on this will date it more than the design and build will.
