Adidas is easily one of the most well-known brands in sports, and like many other sports companies they have a handful of apps available on mobile capable of interfacing with other parts of your life depending on what it is you need. Adidas’ latest app is called Snapshot and just released this week, and it aims to tell you how fast you can kick a soccer ball and at what distance. Adidas is calling this first soccer tracking software for phones, as it uses the phone’s camera to record the video and then analyze the data and feed it back to you with results.
The app applies the information like speed, distance and angle of your kicks by analyzing the video recording of your kicks frame by frame, which allows it to determine those details. While the obvious nature of such an application is to help those who might play Soccer/Football become a better kicker and perfect their kicks in game, it also has some integrated social elements like sharing your results videos via Facebook or simply to the gallery, while you can share any images captured with the app to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Building off of that, the app lets you apply special effects to the videos and pictures to make them more share-worthy, or just to jazz them up a little bit if you wish.
Adidas has developed the app to allow tracking of official 5, 4, and 3 ball sizes, so no matter which size you’re using the app can accommodate all three of them. There’s also a bit of a competition element in that you can compare your results against friends and other users of the app and you can compete with them through Facebook on leaderboards or compare achievements gained. Of course, the app also lets you search for and find the Adidas store nearest to where you are so you can buy stuff, and it supports 18 different languages. In addition to being able to compare your kicks against other app users, you can use Adidas Snapshot to compare your kicks against some of the pro players too if you’re curious to know how you stack up. The app also seems to be fairly configurable to accommodate the different regions where the app is available.
