We’ve heard a few rumors that Amazon was looking to unveil some new tablets, in time for the holiday season. And this morning they did just that. They dropped a press release with the new Fire Tablet, which is going for $50. The Fire HD 8 and HD 10, which are larger tablets, as well as a Fire Kids Edition. There are also new versions of the Fire TV. So the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick get Voice remote thanks to Alexa, and there is also a Fire TV Gaming Edition. So let’s break down everything that Amazon announced this morning.
Starting with the Fire Tablet, this is a $50 tablet that includes a quad-core processor, 7-inch IPS display, cameras on the front and back (not the corners, like the Fire Phone), as well as a microSD card slot which supports up to 128GB. It also has exclusive Amazon features and services, as you’d expect with it being an Amazon tablet. Something unique that Amazon is doing here with the Fire Tablet is offering it in a six-pack for $250. This would be great for the entire family, or even for a classroom.
Next up is the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10. Amazon has gone bigger with these two tablets, and the company says that they were designed for entertainment, with a widescreen HD display on both models. They are thin and light featuring a quad-core processor along with stereo speakers powered by Dolby Audio. The Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 also get a new version of Fire OS, which is Fire OS 5 “Bellini”. The Kids edition of the Fire tablet is going for $99. It’s the same great tablet that they announced last year, but cheaper. So you still have the great kid-proof case, as well as a year of Amazon Freetime Unlimited, over 20,000 hand-curated and age-appropriate websites as well as YouTube videos. Amazon also gives you the same 2-year worry-free guarantee here. You can pre-order it today.
Onto the Fire TV, which has been my favorite piece of hardware from Amazon. The Fire TV and Fire TV Stick were some of the most popular items on Amazon in the past year. Today, Amazon introduced the “next generation of Fire TV” which includes 4K Ultra HD support and the new Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote. Not only that, there is also a Fire TV Gaming Edition. This model comes with the game controller as well as a 32GB microSD card and two games, which include Shovel Knight and Disney’s Ducktales. This is going for $139.99. While the Fire TV is going for $99. That’s a really great value when you think about it.
Lots of news coming out of Amazon today, in regards to their hardware division. Wonder where the Fire Phone Successor is.
