Best Buy Drops the price of the Nexus Player to $49.99

Last year, Google started a second attempt at your living room with Android TV. And so far it seems to be more successful than their first attempt with Google TV. We’re seeing loads of set-top boxes, as well as TV’s from Sony, Sharp, Philips and others with Android TV build into the TV. Along with the release of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 last year, Google announced the Nexus Player. Which was their first Android TV set-top box, and was made by ASUS. Since then we’ve seen a few others come out from other manufacturers. But now Best Buy have dropped the price of the Nexus Player to just $49.99.

Just last week, we got official word from Google that the 29th of September is the day. The day that we will get new Nexus smartphones from LG and Huawei. But also possibly a new Android TV set-top box. And with Best Buy lowering the price, it adds fuel to that fire. We’ve seen leaks of a new Chromecast coming through and being announced at the September 29th, San Francisco  event. So it wouldn’t be too crazy to expect a new Nexus Player coming in a little over a week as well.

For those of you looking for a cheap set-top box that features Android TV, we’d turn your attention to the existing Nexus Player. At $49.99, it’s currently the cheapest set-top box available, even beating out the Fire TV, which is actually pretty good. The Nexus Player’s gamepad is also on sale right now, going for $29.99, which is $10 off of its normal price tag as well. For $80, that’s definitely a great pair to have. Especially if you’re a casual gamer and don’t really need to buy a console like a Playstation 4 or Xbox One.

We will be live at Google’s event next week to see what they have up their sleeve. So be sure to keep it locked to Android Headlines for all of the details. In the mean time if you’re interested in the Nexus Player and/or the Gamepad, feel free to check out the links below.
