Canada: The Nexus 5X & Nexus 6P Arrive End Of October

It is an exciting day in the land of Google – announcements about their new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, a new Chromecast and so much more.  But we were all waiting for the two new Nexus smartphones – the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P.  We heard about the specs, the pricing, the pre-orders and delivery times in regards to the US, UK, Ireland and Japan – but we wanted to know about Canada and when we would get the new Nexus devices and how much will they cost us!  We are happy to report that we now know a few more bits and pieces about the Canada particulars.

Our source has confirmed that both devices – the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P – will arrive in Canada “at the end of October” and that pre-orders, “will start shortly.”  Just go to the Google Store or your local Rogers, Bell, Telus, WIND Mobile and Videotron to pre-order.  Big retailers such as Best Buy will also stock and sell the new Nexus smartphones.  Carriers will also offer contract prices, which may vary from carrier to carrier.  However, in the Google Store the pricing for the Nexus 5X will be $499 for the 16GB model and $559 for the 32GB variant.  The Nexus 6P will cost you $699 for 32GB, $749 for 64GB and a whopping $849 for 128GB.  On the Google Store, it shows that the Nexus 6P “leaves warehouse in three to four weeks.”

The LG Nexus 5X takes us back to the pre-Nexus 6 days when the specs and price of a Nexus device were reasonable and affordable to all.  It comes with a 5.2-inch LCD FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 424 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  It sports a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor clocked at 1.82 GHz.  It has only 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and no microSD card to expand.  The camera is using a 12.3MP sensor with laser autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, but no OIS.  For social media selfies and video chats, they put in a 5MP front-facing camera (FFC).  For power, there is a non-removable 2700 mAh quick charge battery.  It also has a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone and making mobile payments via Android Pay.  There is also front-facing stereo speakers for better sound.

The higher end, Huawei Nexus 6P adds an all-metal body, a 5.7-inch LCD QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and 515 PPI.  It uses a revised (v2.1) 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor clocked at 1.9 GHz.  It has 3GB of RAM and adds an available 128GB model – still no possible expansion.  It is sporting a 13MP camera and 8MP FFC, powered by a non-removable 3450 mAh battery.  The Nexus 6P also has the fingerprint sensor and dual front-facing speakers.

UPDATE: Rogers has sent our source a note that the Nexus 6P can now be reserved on their website.  The pricing will be $699.99 no term or $199.99 on a select two-year Share Everything Plan.  They will only carry the 32GB Graphite model.
