If you haven’t been following your social media feeds then you might be unaware that today is officially Apple day. Apple has taken (and left) the stage now and unveiled a number of their latest products, with the big closing aspect being the launch of the latest iPhone. In fact, like Samsung (and like Apple last year), they have launched two new iPhones. The iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. In terms of what’s new, Apple state that “everything” has changed although, when looking closer there does not seem to be too much on offer that is new. There is a new color, Rose Gold, for those that are interested, but much of the rest remains the same.
So, the two new iPhones mainly differ in size with the smaller, iPhone 6S adopting a 4.7-inch display and the bigger of the two, the Plus sized variant, sporting a 5.5-inch display. Again, these are pretty much the same sized devices as last years models. One aspect which would be slightly disappointing if this was an Android smartphone, is that it is not just the screen sizes that have stagnated. The resolution also remains the same with the smaller model adopting the same 720p resolution and the bigger variant offering a 1080p display. So no QHD or 4K in sight for iPhone owners just yet.
Inside, both variants have seen a bump of sorts with their RAM count hitting 2GB and everything being powered by an Apple A9 processor. Unfortunately, with Apple it is a bit harder to nail down how much more powerful this processor is, although Apple state it offers a 70-percent CPU performance and a 90-percent GPU performance over the previous A8 processor. Take what you will from that and how it compares to an Android equivalent. Moving to the cameras and this is another element which has seen an increase compared to last year. Apple always does get much criticism for their cameras and last year’s offerings came with an 8-megapixel rear camera in tow. That has now been bumped up to a 12-megapixel rear camera which is coupled with a 5-megapixel front facing camera. So again, although they are being bumped up they do somewhat trail when it comes to Android and especially in MP count.
Otherwise, much of the rest again remains the same with the two variants available in three different size models, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Not to mention, their pricing also remains similar with the lowest variant available on contract starting from $199 for the 6S and $299 for the 6S Plus. Overall, depending on how you approach this will determine what you make of the latest iPhone offerings. They do come with a boost in RAM, performance and camera abilities and that is a good thing. It is unlikely to pose much of a threat to the Android faithful as much of the specs on offer here can be picked up on an average mid-range Android device. Rose Gold aside that is. However, if migrating from an older iPhone then there is some improvements on offer.
