Android Wear smartwatches have never really been extremely customizable in many ways other than with loadable apps and different watchfaces, but as of today Motorola is changing things up a bit for the original Moto 360 with the latest update to the Motorola Connect app. When sitting on the charger, the original Moto 360 shows a battery bar that travels around the length of the display and shows off a blue color, along with the number percentage of how much battery the watch currently has. The latest update to Motorola Connect lets users changes this up as well as adds in some new watch faces that users can apply to their watch.
When it comes to the watchfaces, the customization options actually look a lot like what you get in the recently launched application from Sony for use with the Sony smartwatch 3. Various watch face options have always been available within the Motorola Connect app, of course, there is now just new options. As for the battery bar on the watch face when the Moto 360 is sitting on the charging dock, in addition to the standard blue color, users can now switch the color of the battery bar to either a red, green, pink, or yellow depending on their tastes.
This is a pretty minor tweak and probably won’t sway anyone to buy the original model watch if they can find it, but one that existing Moto 360 users will surely find appealing as a nice little extra touch. This particular functionality can be accessed from the Motorola Connect app, but users can also sift through the different colors on the Moto 360 display itself as it’s sitting on the dock if they swipe down from the top edge of the display. This makes it super convenient to switch on the fly without having to pull out your phone, open the app, apply the change and then wait for it to take hold on the watch. The app update should be live for anyone that uses it now, or for anyone who will be using it soon as a new owner of the Moto 360. The update to the app also adds support for the new Moto 360 which was just recently unveiled by Motorola back at IFA, and it’s likely this new color selection feature will be available for the new model as well.
