While all apps tend to receive an update at some point, there are those which receive a lot of updates. Dropbox is one of the latter apps and has already this year seen an abundance of new features being added. For instance, Dropbox has recently announced the use of second factor security keys, the ability to save URLs, integration with Office, to name a few.
Well, today the company has announced another new feature which is being switched on and this one is designed to make the ability to share files a lot easier. The new feature which is being dubbed the ‘team feature’ is geared more towards those who use Dropbox for work purposes. For instance, if you often share files and folders, you are likely to sometimes find it an inconvenience to have to constantly share permissions, add people and so on. The new team feature looks to do away with these annoyances by providing Dropbox teams with one centralized place for all their share files and folders.
To make use of the feature, you just have to create a ‘team’ and add everyone involved in the collaboration for the project once and then all documents that are dropped into the team folder are accessible by everyone involved. Each time a new file or folder is added, everyone involved will have access to it. Likewise, people who join the team late can simply be added and have back access to all the already shared files. There also seems to be an additional sub-team features in play which uses the ‘groups’ tag and this further allows for files to be shared with sub-teams within the bigger team without having to share with everyone else involved on the project. In short, keeping everyone in a team and sub-team on the same page with access to only the files that apply to them.
