A new smartphone from German brand Gigaset, has been certified in China by the country’s regulator TENAA. The device, called the Gigaset ME Pro, was unveiled by Siemens at the IFA trade show held earlier this month at Berlin, alongside two other smartphones dubbed the ME and the ME Pure. The handset has now popped up on the database of the Chinese regulator with the model number GS57-6, indicating that its commercial launch is probably not that far away. As for the two stable-mates of the ME Pro, both the ME and the ME Pure will be smaller and less expensive devices comparatively speaking. While the ME is essentially the same device in a smaller package with slightly reduced memory, storage and camera specs, the ME Pure will be an altogether different device powered by a different SoC, and will be the most affordable of the lot by far.
Coming to what we already know about the hardware specs of the upcoming device, the Gigaset ME Pro (GS57-6) features a 5.5-inch Full HD TFT display. The handset has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded if needed, by way of a microSD card. The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC under the hood, meaning an octa-core CPU clocked at a frequency of 1.8 GHz will be powering the device. As for the cameras, the ME Pro sports a 20-megapixel rear-facing primary camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing secondary camera. Network connectivity options include GSM, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, FDD-LTE and TD-LTE, and the device also supports legacy GPRS and EDGE networks, alongside Bluetooth, USB and WLAN. The smartphone carries a rather larger 4,000 mAh battery, and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
While the major specs mentioned thus far were already public knowledge, what with the phone having been made official by the manufacturer already, the listing on TENAA has now also revealed the measurements of the soon-to-be-launched handset. The device is 156 mm in length, 76 mm in width and 8.18 mm in thickness. The handset is on the heavier side, weighing in at 198 grams according to the TENAA listing. While the smartphone was already said to be available in Europe at some stage during this year, the listing on TENAA now indicates that the device will also be launched in China sooner rather than later. In terms of pricing, Seimens has priced the ME Pro in Europe at €549.
