Anytime a new Nexus device comes out, or any new iteration of a series phone for that matter, the first thing many consumers and users will want to do is compare the new model to the older model for various reasons. Is it worth grabbing the newer phone or should I try to pick up the older model? What are the specs? What new features have been included? These are all questions which get asked and while we won’t be doing a full comparison of the two, we’ll give a brief breakdown of the differences for those that are interested.
First and foremost, there are some obvious design changes to pay attention to. The Nexus 6P from Google and Huawei is the first Nexus device to sport an all metal body design which is a big step in the design department which should gives things a more premium feel. The Nexus 6P also comes with a fingerprint sensor where as the Nexus 6 did not, and Google is touting the best camera experience on a Nexus device yet with the 12.3MP sensor that’s on the back of the Nexus 6P compared to the 13MP camera on the back of the Nexus 6. When it comes to hardware, the Nexus 6 is running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU, while the Nexus 6P is powered by Qualcomm’s latest, the 64-Bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. It comes with 3GB of RAM on board which is the same as the Nexus 6 from last year.
The Nexus 6P comes with a 3450mAh battery compared to the 3220mAh on the Nexus 6, and it comes in a 128GB model alongside the 32GB, and 64GB, which were the only options for the Nexus 6. The front camera has been improved, bumping up from the 2MP on last year’s Nexus 6 to an 8MP on the front of the Nexus 6P which should allow for the best possible selfie shots and video chat of any Nexus so far. The Nexus 6P is also running Android 6.09 Marshmallow out of the box while the Nexus 6 currently runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and both are actually capable of recording video in 4K at 30fps. When yo break it down, both devices are quite good on paper, and while the Nexus 6P has yet to get any real-world experience from users, it’s shaping up to be quite an up step from last year’s Nexus 6.
