These days, everything is smart, right? In fact, Nest’s whole portfolio is made of smart things like the thermostat, smoke detector and security cameras. Honeywell has been making thermostats forever, and now they have their own smart thermostat, which is on display over at Showstoppers at IFA right now. Honeywell also has a smart security system, both of which are available in the US as well as in Europe. We’ll definitely be getting more time with these later on. Honeywell also launched the connect app for Android today. Much like the other smart thermostats out there, you can control Honeywell’s offerings when you aren’t at home. So if you’re leaving on a trip and going to be out of town for a week or so, and you forgot to turn off the heat or air conditioning, or raise the temperature to save energy, you can do so from the app anywhere in the world. Pretty neat.
We got a chance to go hands on with both, and you can find them down below in the gallery. You’ll notice that the demo was with an iPhone, but rest assured, the Android app did launch today. So Android users can still jump on board. Pretty cool smart utilities coming out this year.
