IFA brings about many interesting things ranging from tablets and smartwatches to smartphones, but there are tons of other products there too including smartphone accessories. One like this thermal camera from Seek called the Seek Compact was there at the event and we got some hands on time with it. These little camera plug into the charging port of your device and there are units compatible with both Android and iOS, so no matter your platform of choice you can use it. What do they do and why would you want one? The Seek Compact can be used for any number of things where you might have a need to see things that put out heat. You could use it to locate a lost pet if it’s dark outside where visibility is low, or you could use it for things like locating electrical shorts.
The truth is there could be many, many uses for it, and since it’s small and plugs into your smartphone, something you probably have on you at all times, it goes where you go and is completely portable. It can be for personal use, or it could be used for people in the field using it for work. The Seek Compact sports a 36 degree field of view, has an adjustable focus, has a -40c to 300c detection range and a protective waterproof case so you don’t have to worry about it getting wet.
