If you’re one who likes to get your daily helping of news via the digital media, then Play Newsstand is likely on your radar, and if it isn’t perhaps it should be given the comprehensive collection of different media outlets which it supports. Play Newsstand was at one point two separate apps, but since that time Google has merged everything into one seamless user experience. Everything looks material design and gives you access not only to news covering varied topics, but also access to magazines and magazine subscriptions so you don’t need more than one app for your media consumption.
The latest version of Play Newsstand began rolling out yesterday which should bring users up to version 3.4.4, and this update seems to be focused on the sports nuts, although it also includes bug fixes and performance improvements as most app updates often do. For those who are sports enthusiasts, Play Newsstand will now include news on favorite sports teams across a variety of different sports like MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL. Users will also now be able to see sports scores from those favorite teams as well so they can be up to date on the scores for games they may not be able to watch. Although the types of sports and leagues are limited to the four mentioned above for now, Google states that more sports and leagues will be added in future updates, although they don’t mention which sports/leagues, or when they will arrive in the app.
Those who already have particular sports and teams in mind, can open up Play Newsstand and do a search for whatever it they’re looking for, and the app will serve up options to sift through. Users can either subscribe to a feed for their chosen league or team, or they can just browse through the available content. If you like reading stuff on the fly at your leisure, simply browsing through may be the best choice. However, if you like to be kept apprised of all the information and details of your favorite teams and leagues as they come up, then subscribing to those specific feeds is likely a better way to go so you’ll always be up to date. The app should already be live on the Play Store however if you still don’t see the update, you can download the latest apk here.
