Micromax Informatics has launched two new smartphones in India as part of its Canvas Juice lineup, which is known for its rather large batteries, much like the Marathon range of smartphones from Chinese vendor Gionee. The handsets sport 4,000 mAh batteries each, and according to the company, that should be good enough to offer up to 21 days of standby time and up to 12 hours of talk time. One of the two handsets officially unveiled on Monday had already gone on sale last week, if reports are to be believed. The device is called the Canvas Juice 3, and comes with an MSRP of Rs. 8,999 ($135). The other phone that was unveiled, has been dubbed the Juice 3 Plus, and is said to be available by the end of September. The company however, has not given any pricing details for the device as of now.
Coming to the two smartphones, the Juice 3 Plus, in essence, is the same device as the Juice 3, but with a 5.5-inch display, as opposed to the smaller 5-inch screen on the Juice 3. Both panels come with the same pixel resolution of 1280 x 720, giving the larger phone a ppi of 267, while the smaller device comes with a ppi of 297. The 3 Plus also comes with a 5-megapixel front camera and 16 GB internal storage, compared to the 2-megapixel sensor of the selfie-cam and 8 GB storage on the smaller handset. The rest of the hardware stays just about identical for the most part. Both handsets are powered by the MediaTek MT6580 SoC and come with 2 GB of RAM. Both devices run on Android 5.0 Lollipop and feature 8-megapixel rear-facing cameras with auto focus and LED flash. Inexplicably however, both the smartphones skip LTE connectivity, but they support 3G HSPA, alongside Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the two new phones, Mr. Vineet Taneja, CEO of Micromax, said, “At Micromax, we have always been committed to address today’s smartphone users’ biggest need of long lasting batteries. With the introduction of two new smartphones in our Canvas Juice series, we aim to create a perfect value proposition enabling our highly mobile consumers to make the most of these heavy duty marathon batteries for work and entertainment requirements”.
