One of the more popular features of all these smartwatches coming out lately, is fitness tracking. Google announced Google Fit last year, which was basically a barebones fitness app, keeping track of your steps and such. Now, Motorola has launched their own app dubbed “Moto Body” it essentially does the same thing, but it’s a bit more full featured. The Moto Body isn’t actually new, it was part of the Moto 360 with the Connect app for almost a year now, but the app was limited to just the Moto 360. Now it’s coming to the larger screen, on your smartphone.
As expected, the app is limited to working with a Moto 360 only, however it will work on any Android smartphone running Android 4.3 and up. So if you have the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and are using the Moto 360, you’ll still be able to use this app. Which is a pretty nice concession on Motorola’s part. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use it on the Huawei Watch or the ASUS Zenwatch 2, however. Basically the app will take the data that is recorded from your watch and show it on your phone. This includes steps, heart rate, activity and also calculates the calories burned and distance covered. The app also displays everything in details for a day, week, month and even a year. One of the more interesting aspects of Moto Body is the ability to compare your stats. So you can see how you’ve done compared to other days or other weeks, months or even years. If you’ve traveled you’ll likely have walked more than normal, and you can compare that, which is pretty cool. As with most fitness apps, there are also fitness tips and insight available there.
Currently the app is live in the Google Play Store, and you can grab it from the link down below in the sources. So far it’s a pretty well featured app, and one we’ll definitely be trying out with the new Moto 360 as soon as our review unit makes its way into our hands. We’ll likely be seeing an update to the Moto Connect app in the near future as well, to take Moto Body out of Connect and have it as a separate app.
