Motorola Connect Gets New Update, New Watch Faces In Tow

For those who are a bit foggy on what is Motorola Connect, it’s a support app for those who use the Moto 360, Motorola, Keylink, the Motorola Power Pack and other types of Motorola devices. The device is like a watch that you can wear on your wrist and you can control your Motorola smartphones functions remotely via the device.  The app has two main functions and that is to provide data on accessories  and enable users to send text messages via laptop or PC. If you accidently lose your phone, Motorola Connect will ring your phone to help you find it.

The new update for Motorola Connect became available on Google Play during the weekend. The update makes it easier to navigate the interface and there are some bug fixes. The updated UI is quite large, bright and it is more in tune with the layout of the Moto app that was recently seen with the Moto G 2015 and Moto X Pure Edition. When you open the app, you will be able to see how many apps you had connected to Motorola Connect. As you do that, you will see a yellow button at the bottom right of the screen and you can press this button to add new devices.

When you tap your device, you will see a recognizable but more solid assembly of options to customise your device such as choice of dock colours, watch faces and set your watch location. Its is good to note that the new basic watch faces from the Moto 360 (2015) takes the opportunity to utilize the interactive watch face API to enable the original Moto 360 to have them too.

There are some new watch faces that came with the update and these faces are Dials, Dials II, Essential and Refined. The Dials and Dials II now have options which can monitor function  like Moto Body activities (calorie count and steps count) or battery status (pressing the battery option works as a shortcut to brightness settings). The Essential face syncs with Moto Body and it can display your body goals that you have achieved via tick marks on the face.

In the end, Motorola has brought in new watch face APIs to supplement their basic faces and these very faces are being made available for users with a Moto 360 device. However, a looming question still remains. Would users continue to use the Motorola watch face or would they still choose to a use third-party application for their devices?
