Gold Nexus 6P Listing Spotted In Japan As Special Edition

Google announced a lot of products today, two new Nexus phones, new Chromecast hardware and even a premium tablet called Pixel C. We know a lot about the Nexus phones as they were leaked some time ago in pictures, which incresingly became more official-looking as the date of the event neared. The Nexus 6P made by the Chinese manufacturer Huawei, is the more interesting phone, as it integrates specs meant for a true flagship device and a design based on aluminum. From the leaks, we could see the Nexus 6P in four different color options, but only three were officially announced at the event, so what happened with the fourth one?

Well, there had been some rumors previously that the gold version would be for select markets and following this line of thinking, the gold-colored Nexus 6P has now been spotted on the Google Store for Japan and listed as a “Special Edition”, separated from the regular Nexus 6P and its three color options: Frost, Aluminum, and Graphite. There’s no way to purchase this phone, but those interested can register to be notified when it becomes available. Apparently, the only difference between the two editions are the color offerings, but perhaps Google is reserving this color option for the version with the most internal memory or something. The availability of the Special Edition Nexus 6P is also unclear, so perhaps it will be offered only in Japan. Maybe in the end it will join the regular Nexus 6P as the fourth color option as previously seen on the renders.

In terms of the actual device, the Nexus 6P sports a 5.7-inch display with QHD resolution, although it was said during the announcement that its size belongs to a phone with a smaller screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor and 3 GB of RAM. The sensor on the main camera has a resolution of 12.3 megapixels and the front-facing is an 8-megapixel one. There’s a non-removable battery with a 3,450 mAh capacity and following the Nexus tradition, there’s no memory card expansion slot, so users will choose between 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal memory. Of course, it runs Android Marshmallow out of the box and since it now supports fingerprint sensors and USB Type-C connectors, both features are present in this phone. The regular edition of the phone can be pre-ordered right now in the US.
