Google has announced five new devices during the company’s press event yesterday, two new Nexus smartphones, two Chromecast devices, and a Pixel C tablet. The company has unveiled Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices, the former is a smartphone made by LG, and the latter is a Huawei-made phablet. We’ve already talked in detail about each of these phones, but there are additional details that need some attention. Let’s talk more about pre-installed apps on these two handsets, shall we.
As you all know, Nexus devices ship with stock Android on top, in this case, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. What does this mean? Well, this is clean Android as Google has imagined it should look, so you won’t find any bloat on it. That being said, Google does put the company’s own apps on there, but you’ll be able to pre-install those if you want, presuming you purchase the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P handset.
The company’s VP of Engineering, Dave Burke, said the following during yesterday’s press conference: ”With the new Nexus devices, we’ve reduced the number of preloaded apps on the phone, to make the out-of-box experience cleaner and simpler. We’ve also developed a new system that moves over a quarter of our apps to a post-setup installation phase, which means they can be uninstalled just like any other apps.”
These are the apps you’ll be able to uninstall if you want: Google Docs, Fit, Google+, Keep, News, Play Books, Sheets, Slides and Weather. You won’t be able to remove Clock, Gmail, Phone, Play Store and Settings for obvious reasons. This feature is available for only the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices, at least for now. If any additional news surface, we’ll make sure to let you know.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices both ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, as already mentioned. The two devices also sport the same rear-facing camera sensor (12.3-megapixel one), but the rest of their specs are different. The Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch fullHD display, 2GB of RAM and is powered by the Snapdragon 808, while the Nexus 6P comes with a 5.7-inch QHD panel, 3GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 810 processor.
