Samsung’s Gear S2 is now official and there are more than a few details starting to come to light about Samsung’s new smartwatch which is due to hit stores this October. Those who may be considering the new watch as a possible option will no longer need to have a Samsung smartphone to use the watch like the company’s previous offerings. Samsung has changed the compatibility up with the Gear S2 and now non-Samsung phones are supported which is a huge step forward. As far as features of the Gear S2 go, there will be quite a few things it’s capable of, some of which is made possible due to the amount of preinstalled apps which come on board.
Samsung has also just released the official unveiling video of the Gear S2 earlier this morning, which highlights some of the watch’s capabilities while also showing off the sleek design of their first round smartwatch. You’ll see Samsung pay special attention to some of its unique functions like the rotating bezel, the S-Health app, Nike+ and more. According to the video, it looks like the rotating bezel will be capable of switching out watch faces for the user although it will also likely be programmable to do other stuff too.
You’ll find plenty of other things packed into the watch as well, like weather apps, a stopwatch (which is to be expected) messaging apps for texting, Samsung Pay, and although it isn’t mentioned what app is used the watch will be able to lock and unlock your vehicle (so long as the vehicle itself supports this feature of connected integration). Of course users can also expect it to have email capabilities and music controls for playback and many other things. The watch is slated for release next month and will come in three different models, and will be available from a range of retailers and carriers when it hits. As far as pricing and exact availability dates, those details haven’t been mentioned just yet. Between the open compatibility support and the circular UX which Samsung states “gets better with every turn,” this is likely to be a popular option for smartwatch buyers.
