Google is adapting its Android OS into many platforms, it is designed for wearables as Android Wear and now it’s more compatible than ever, some cars are already using Android Auto with its interface designed to be easily seen and a few TV’s and set-top boxes are using Android TV with entertainment in mind. The latter OS makes it easier to browse through content and users can even search with their voice. Content from phones and other devices is easily displayed on the larger screen and gaming is also possible, plus it can access the Google Play Store for additional apps. Now, as a part of the IFA in Berlin, Philips has announced some new TV’s that use this operating system, all of them offer UHD (4K) resolution, which is the highest available for consumers. The three new models feature an elegant European design and they are made in collaboration with TP Vision and Gibson.
The flagship model is the 9600, it is available in 65-inches and it can be controlled with a smartphone or the included advanced remote which features a QWERTY keyboard. The LED display is super bright peaking at 1000 Nit, but it still features Micro Dimming Premium to reach good contrast levels. The 200 Hz panel creates smooth images and the 4-sided Ambilight makes a more immersive experience. Android 5.1 Lollipop runs on a hexa-core processor and it has 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using the USB ports. The sound is provided by front-facing tweeters and rear-facing subwoofers making for a total of 50W.
The 8601 TV integrates some of the flagship features like 4-sided Ambilight, 50W sound with 18 speakers, the advanced remote control and the 6-core processor in a very slim design and very reduced bezels. It is available in 65 inches and 55 inches and the speakers featuring DTS Premium sound are detachable, plus they’re made with premium materials.
Finally, the AmbiLux UHD TV uses the most advanced Ambilight system with rows of rear-mounted LEDs and pico-projectors to extend what’s being displayed. Music is also benefitted with this technology as the Ambilight Music mode creates halos of light matching the sound from the TV and it can be paired with Philips Hue Smart Lighting to make it even more immersive across the room. This model is available in 65 inches, the speakers provide 30W of sound and it runs on a quad-core processor.
