The second generation Moto 360 was a highly expected device, but for some users, the pain of having to wait for that nice gadget isn’t over yet. On September 2nd, Motorola made the device official, with sales to begin on September 15th while pre-orders were already available from the launch day on. Some users have already received their watches but others (including us) just received an email from Motorola saying that the delivery has been delayed due to technical problems with their ordering and shipping system.
Other Android websites were also struck with the same wave of unluckiness, as Droid Life reported. From the emails they received, it seems like a general problem instead of an issue affecting a specific set of models or materials used. One reader ordered a standard black steel, 46mm, and another one ordered the device from a Best Buy pre-order.
If you are unfamiliar with it, the Moto 360 (2015) takes last year’s Moto watch to another level, with improved hardware, two different sizes, and new colors. It is available in 46mm and 42mm, and while both models come in gold, black and silver, the smaller one also comes in rose gold. The processor is a quad-core Snapdragon 400 running at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB of RAM and a 400 mAh battery. Last year’s model had the same RAM but was powered by a less powerful single-core 1 GHz TI OMAP 3 processor and had a smaller 320 mAh when compared to the bigger 46mm version. There are two really noticeable changes from the past version: the straps are attached to the outside and the crown button has an angled position to the top, opposite to the leveled one in the previous model. The watch starts at $300, climbing as high as $430 depending on which sizes, bands and colors you choose. Last year’s model had a $250 initial price.
The e-mail apologizing for the inconvenience was signed by Bjorn Kilburn, vice president of e-commerce for Motorola. However, we are still in the dark since they didn’t specify a timeline yet, just writing “We are working hard to get your device to you as soon as possible, and we will send you an updated estimated shipping date as soon as we can”.
