Most of you have already heard of QiKU, a relatively new company backed by both Coolpad and Qihoo 360, which has recently released three new handsets. The company has showcased the QiKU Q Terra (their flagship) is the most powerful out of the bunch, while QiKU Luna and Ultimate are also quite compelling devices. Anyhow, we’ve already talked about each of these devices in our original announcement, and are here to talk about something very specific here, the camera tech used in these devices.
We’ve received a rather interesting press release by FotoNation, a company which has worked with QiKU while developing these devices. All three of QiKU’s smartphones actually sport FotoNation’s ‘FotoSavvy’ algorithms which are used in both still and video image capture. This tech is packed with some art color filters, and it also uses the latest HDR (High Dynamic Range) engine. “Mobile camera technology is a key product differentiator for the smartphone industry. Including FotoNation’s latest innovations in computational imaging technology in 360 QiKU smartphones has allowed us to deliver one-of-a-kind user experience and image quality to our customers. Today, a phone that only takes pictures is not enough. Users want to tell stories, and 360 QiKU is helping them do just that,” said Mr. Li Wang, President and CEO of QiKU. Another interesting thing to mention here, is the fact that FotoNation’s face-and-eye detection and tracking tech is already included in 60% of top tier smartphones out there (including the ones that actually use such technology).
All three of QiKU’s smartphones are interesting, but the Q Terra has definitely managed to grab the most attention. This phablet sports a 6-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics. Interesting enough, QiKU has said that they’ve implemented a new cooling system in this device in order to keep Snapdragon 810 working on optimal conditions. Two 13-megapixel shooters (Sony’s IMX278 sensors, f/1.8 aperture) are available on the back of this phablet, and a single 8-megapixel snapper (80-degree wide-angle lens) is available on its front side. The 3,700mAh battery is also available here, and the device also sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The QiKU Q Terra is made ut of metal, and it offers fast charging, as well as 4G TE connectivity. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact this phone has 83% screen-to-body ratio, and that the devices run QiKU’s 360 OS on top of Google’s Android OS.
